Here’s Some Advice For The 2012 Presidential Candidates: Learn A Lesson From George Bailey

by Mysterious Q

It's bad enough that yet another USA Presidential Election season has rolled around to torture us all with all those nasty political ads, but now we have to listen to the stupid comments made by the idiots that are running for office as well. You would think that potential candidates who would do or say anything to get elected would have the good sense to utter words of wisdom instead of the usual verbal blunders, but that's too much to hope for in a nation of people who are more interested in what Lady Gaga will where on her next big TV gig than whether potential presidential candidates can even pass a simple intelligence test.

There are always issues or groups that these politicos love to target and I guess the poor are in their cross hairs this time around. It's sad enough that some idiot recently wrote a book calling people who receive food stamps Moochers, but now good ole Mitt Romney has to chime in by stating, "I'm not concerned about the very poor, we have a safety net there." Oh, really? And where might that be? Maybe I should go and ask the thousands of homeless people currently living precariously on the outskirts of Las Vegas?

Of course we have politicians to thank for allowing and even helping big corporations to trash our economy and cause those millions of fore closures that have created huge homeless enclaves like the one in Vegas. Just to be sure the icing is put on the Las Vegas poverty cake, our beloved fearless leader goes and says, "When times are tough, you tighten your belts...You don't blow a bunch of cash on Vegas when you're trying to save for college."

Oh, thanks for the financial tip Mr. President! Here's one for you: Instead of giving billions of bucks to help bail out huge corporations that have helped to destroy our economy, how about providing some low interest loans so that some of your voters can actually afford to put a roof over their heads and take proper care of their families? You know how them 'Moochers' love free hand-outs! Oh, I forgot. They don't need any freebies because they already have that 'safety net."

Perhaps I am a bit jaded, but after watching politicians do their thing for the fifty some years I have existed on this earth I have come to a simple conclusion regarding their moral character: There are few or none that really care about anyone or anything but themselves. Most are on ego trips fueled by their own success and a taste for power. All but a tiny portion of these wunderkind wannabees have done much more to help themselves and their friends than they have to assist the middle class or poor of our nation in any way, shape or form.

It might be a good idea for all the millionaires and gazillionaires running for election this time around to take a couple of hours out of their busy schedules to watch a film that may help them to reconnect with reality and, perhaps, humanity. It's A Wonderful Life is a 1946 Frank Capra movie that stars Jimmy Stewart as George Bailey, a man who didn't know his own worth and value to the community until after he had a chance to see how things would have turned out if he had never been born.

During one of the key moments of the film, George delivers a scathing rebuke to his nemesis Mr. Potter. Potter is a slum lord and exploiter of the poor and middle class in their town who would rather these folks live in one of his broken down buildings than own a home. George says, "Do you know how long it takes a working man to save $5,000? Just remember this, Mr. Potter, that this rabble you're talking about... they do most of the working and paying and living and dying in this community. Well, is it too much to have them work and pay and live and die in a couple of decent rooms and a bath?"

I just wonder how people like Romney, Obama and the others who live off the wealth and political machines fueled by the work and purchases of the average citizen living in the USA might react to George Bailey's little diatribe. Like the Potter character, they would probably ignore it. After all, their families have homes, food and the niceties that make life occasionally worth living. They will not have to worry about their utilities being turned off or watch their kids try and make it through a weekend or summer with little or nothing to eat until the next free school lunch comes along.

Well, I offer my heartiest congratulations to all the politicos running for office this year. Once again you have proven to all of us that you are all about yourselves. And I also tip my hat to the major political parties who keep pushing the same old politician archetypes on us. They are rich, stupid and their parties feel that for one reason or another they are owed a chance to run for President. It's all about winning and power, not about people.

I used to say that performers should be seen and not heard. It always seems that an actor promoting their newest film or a singer plugging their latest album somehow always manages to say or do something dumb during any one of hundreds of publicity interviews. But lately, I have noticed that most of those show biz folks are sounding better and making more sense than the current crop of creepy politicians.

Why can't George Clooney or someone like him run for president? George has had a lot of girl friends (and all are good lookers I might add), but he has always had the good sense to remain single while dating. That's more than can be said for the current crop of cheaters among the potential candidates. George is liked by liberals and does all kinds of charity work.

If your persuasion is more conservative, how about Gary Sinise for president? People love him on CSI and who can forget Lieutenant Dan Taylor, the character he played and brought to life in such a magnificent way for the film Forrest Gump. Sinise has created his own foundation which does much to help and support returning USA Military Veterans and their families.

If George and Gary do not want the job, let's just cut to the chase: It's Lady Gaga for President! With her fashion sense, she could be the new Jackie O. Her sometimes sexually neutral dress or actions would appeal to anyone and everyone. Best of all, she says and does outrageous things and that appears to be one of the major qualifications for a presidential candidate these days.
