What Is the Definition of Guest Blogging?
By Alexandru Chiuariu

In an age of social networking that mainly revolves around user-generated content, people should know what blogging is by now especially if they are very interested with online marketing. Modern websites should have some kind of blogging component so it is easy for experienced or inexperienced webmasters to add new content whenever necessary.

While such content systems should be pretty easy to set up, some people may find the whole idea of managing and marketing a web log to be too tedious. Some people that do not have time to promote their online journal but still want to make their content stand out resort to guest blogging. Knowing what guest blogging is all about can help you come up with a conclusion as to whether or not guest blogging should be a path for you to consider.

Blogging as a Guest

If you want to take the definition of guest blogging by context, you are basically a guest that is providing content to a web log owned by someone else. Many popular online journals that have multiple people contributing to the blog use the guest blogging model to some degree because it splits the load amongst the people that are involved.

Consistent content is required for any web log to maintain and grow the number of daily visits. With a number of top writers collectively contributing towards one blog, guest blogging makes sure that the goal is met.

However, do not take the word "guest" literally. Unlike forums, guests are not anonymous contributors. Instead, you have to ask the blog owner permission to become a guest blogger so you can add content. It is similar to applying for a writer position in a community blog but the main difference is that you do not get paid. In exchange for providing free articles to blog, you get the chance to market your own blog or website. This is a big deal if the blog you are trying to be a guest in happens to be a popular blog with tons of daily visitors.

Adding Style and Content

Guest bloggers can greatly contribute to any blog if the blog owner recruits quality writers. Many web log owners require aspiring guest bloggers to provide samples of their work so they can judge if these guest bloggers are capable of providing the right content for the target audience. Good guest bloggers can provide some unique content in a well-written style to impress the readers.

Glorified Commenting

Getting backlinks is very important for a site or blog to be successful. One of the tricks in getting more backlinks is to post comments in any blogs within the same niche. However, some bloggers consider this as a spam tactic and you are limited to the available posts in a blog. Blatantly going off-topic on a blog post to advertise is never a good idea which is why guest blogging is far more effective than simply commenting on blog posts. You get to come up with the content and you can add links within the content so your advertisements do not look blatant.

Building a Reputation

Blogging makes it easy for good writers to showcase their talent. The tough part is actually bringing the content to the audience. It is tough for fresh new blogs to get exposure because people all over the Internet really pay more attention to the more popular blogs that have been around and have worked hard to secure top search engine positions. Through the use of guest blogging, you can place your content in these popular blogs so your talent gets more exposure. These posts will go under your name and you can always link back to your site so your site will get more traffic.
