The Occult World: Death of God?

About Me

I call myself Missionary Bill. My purpose is to help people understand that YOU CAN TRUST GOD. That's a simple, but very important lesson of life I have learned over the past forty years that I've been a Born Again Believer in Jesus. During that time I am sorry to say that I have learned more about the Christian Life by trial and error, than by studying the Bible and seeking the Lord in prayer. However, when I did finally decide to commit to a serious study of the Word of God and to seek the Lord in prayer each day, my life changed in many ways. I began to understand that no matter how many Church Services or Bible Study sessions I attended, there was simply no substitute for personal Bible reading and daily prayer.

If you require a label, most people would consider me a Born-Again, Bible Believing, Conservative Christian. I study and use the King James Version Bible. I am not a Pastor, but have held many positions in local churches and helped to plant them in different areas of the USA. I have a certificate in Biblical Studies, but am certainly not a Bible Scholar. What I have learned by experience working in local Churches and with people that I consider to be great men and women of God, along with my personal studies in the Word of God, is what I hope to share with you. Introduction

Back in the late 1970s members of our church became concerned about the mounting worldwide interest in New Age topics and occult religions. I was working with the pastor as a local missionary and church planter. I spoke to him about the matter and we both agreed that it would be a good idea to present a short series of messages about the occult. Since he was going on a trip to speak at several churches that were supporting our work, he suggested that I take the opportunity to present the series.

I began researching many areas of the occult and how the Bible deals with it. I already had some knowledge of the subject because a few people I knew in High School were involved with that kind of stuff. The more I studied, the more concerned I became. It never occurred to me that so many things in everyday life had direct connections to the occult and the works of the devil.

When it came time to present the series I developed, I called it “The Occult World: Death of God?” I chose that title because I felt strongly then, and feel the same way now, that the purpose of the things I found to be connected to the occult was to replace God by providing an alternative to Him. Many of these things were specifically designed to easily deceive people that were looking for spiritual fulfillment.

I hope that you will keep an open mind and use the information that I will provide in this book to avoid becoming involved with any and all aspects of the occult world. Please note that it is not my purpose to attack anyone or judge them. I believe that most people who get involved with the occult in one way or another do so without understanding that they are endangering their eternal soul or the souls of others.

I leave you with this thought from the Bible:

“And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things. Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.” Revelation 22:8-9 (KJV)

Chapter One: The Roaring Lion

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:” 1 Peter 5:8 (KJV)

I became a Christian in 1972 while I was still a young teenager. It was a tough time to be young. Everyone was rebelling against something, the sexual revolution was in full bloom and it seemed like the New Age movement had a death grip on society. Bookshelves in stores and libraries were filled with books about the supernatural, while TV shows and movies with occult themes flooded the large and small screens of American.

It was during this time that supermarket tabloids helped to fuel the fire of occultism and new age interest by constantly featuring stories about UFOs, ghosts, demon possession, mysticism and Satanism. I was particularly disturbed at the articles by and about Anton LaVey (1930-1997). He was the founder of the Church of Satan and the author of The Satanic Bible. LaVey unashamedly worshiped the devil and encouraged others to do the same.

According to his own autobiography, LaVey was a high school drop out who joined up with carnivals where he played musical instruments and worked on various attractions. During the 1950s he landed in the San Francisco area where he worked for burlesque shows and tent evangelists. LaVey says he became disenchanted with religion while working for various hypocritical preachers and morally corrupt crusade members during outdoor revivals.

LaVey developed an interest in psychic and paranormal research and claims that he investigated cases involving the unexplained that were referred by him by the San Francisco Police Department. The SFPD has always denied this. Either way, LaVey began presenting weekly lectures about the occult that attracted large numbers of people. By 1970 he had appeared on popular TV talk shows like Donahue and The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.

During the early 1970s Anton LaVey became so popular that he had his own column in one of the supermarket tabloids. A friend at school pointed LaVey’s column out to me. I was already a Christian by then and decided to read it to see what he had to say. It was interesting that the one and only column of LaVey’s that I ever read involved a question sent to him in the mail from a person who said they were a born-again Christian.

The Christian told LaVey that he had grown weary of Christianity and wondered if he could become a Satanist and attend Anton’s meetings even though he had already accepted Jesus as his Savior? LaVey’s reply was that once a person had made a decision like that he had already chosen sides. It was a classic tactic used by all cult members: Deny somebody something they want and they go after it even more.

The thing that troubled me the most about LaVey was his ability to attract so many people of all ages to his cult. Hollywood celebrities, prominent authors and even some politicians allegedly attended one or more of his meetings. But it was the young people drawn to his group that troubled me the most. What were we, as Christians, doing wrong? Why couldn’t we attract all these people to our ministries?

The sad truth is that LaVey had a point. He says he became disgusted with Christianity because of hypocritical preachers. During the time he became popular the television and radio airwaves were flooded with all sorts of bible-thumping charlatans. The charismatic movement, in particular, was on a roll and fed people a steady diet of ‘seed faith’ money grabbers like Oral Roberts, Jimmy Swaggart, Jim Bakker and many others.

Oral Roberts said God would kill him if he did not raise eight million dollars in a 1987 fund-raising campaign. Jimmy Swaggart was caught with a known prostitute named Debra Murphree in 1988. He tried to save his ministry by apologizing to his wife and congregation on air, but millions abandoned him after that incident. Jim Bakker of the PTL club sold more lifetime memberships to his Heritage USA theme park and hotel than he could ever accommodate and allegedly paid off a woman who claimed that he and another preacher raped her.

Sadly, conservative Christians faced their own issues as various followers of a ‘fundamentalist’ mega-church pastor in Indiana found their leader allegedly linked to an improper sexual relationship. Even worse, some of the people who went into the ministry after training or working at his church (including his own son) were accused of being everything from child molesters and sexual predators to murderers. The devil didn’t need his own church, he had obviously done a terrific job of infecting God’s.

In ministry it is easy to become so self-righteous that you end up an easy target for the devil. That’s why the Apostle Peter warns us that Satan is like a roaring lion looking for Christians to prey on. The Apostle Paul explains how we can avoid these kinds of problems in Ephesians 6:10-20 (KJV):

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.”

Paul tells Christians to be honest, live in a righteous manner, share the Gospel, believe in and trust God by having faith in his promises and ability to deliver us from temptation, read and learn the Bible, and pray for ourselves and others. That is the formula Paul gives us to be as victorious over the devil as he was. James also reiterates this in James 4:7 (KJV) when he tells us to “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

Chapter Two: Keep The Occult Out Of Your Life

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:8 (KJV)

Just after my first year of high school my family made a move to South Pasadena, Florida, from a rented home in Saint Petersburg. My parents were getting older and didn’t need the hassle of taking care of a house and property, so they opted for us to live in a condominium. Though skeptical at first, I found it a perfect fit for me.

The place had a great pool, was located right on Boca Ciega Bay and had more young people my age living in a nearby housing complex than I ever found in St Pete. It was also a lot closer to my job at a nearby hospital. I could walk there in five minutes and my high school was just a single public transit bus ride away. The bus stopped right in front of our building.

We moved during the summer and that gave me the opportunity to meet some of the other young people living in the area. Most were a lot like me, but one was very different. The first time I saw Bruce I was a bit shocked. He was very tall for his age, lanky, had long hair and rode around the neighborhood as fast as he could on an old Indian motorcycle. He was just the opposite of me and I still can’t figure out how or why we ever connected and became friends.

Without knowing it, I had been working at the hospital with Bruce’s sister for quite awhile. Her name was Leslie and we had a friendly relationship. I knew she lived over in the housing complex near our condominium building, so I asked her about the guy that whizzed around the neighborhood on the Indian motorcycle. She said, “Oh, that’s my brother Bruce. He’s kinda crazy, but harmless.”

Leslie and I shared a common interest in that both of us were born again Christians. We occasionally talked about Christianity, the Bible and other things during breaks. Leslie was almost four years older than me and took me under her wing. She was helpful in so many ways, especially when it came learning more about the Bible. She attended a Bible-believing church in Gulfport and brought me with her a few times. I enjoyed the services and fellowship.

I was surprised to see Bruce at those services and that is where Leslie introduced me to him for the first time. Surprisingly, he dressed nicely for services compared to how I was used to seeing him attired around the neighborhood. I found out later that he was working with the local police in another area nearby and needed the ‘motorcycle guy’ look for undercover work. He was not a police officer, but assisted in drug enforcement activities. Bruce hated drugs and drug dealers. He lost a beloved relative to drugs and had been on a mission to put drug dealers out of business ever since.

After meeting Bruce at church, I was invited over to his parent’s house by Leslie and enjoyed their company. Bruce and Leslie’s folks were Christians who also attended the church in Gulfport. Like Bruce, they were a bit of a surprise. His dad taught college during the academic year and installed built-in pools the rest of the time. Bruce was tall and strong, so he assisted his dad with that second career.

Bruce’s mom was a smart, matter-of-fact person with an amazingly positive attitude and I could easily see where Leslie got her brains, confidence and kindness from. Her mom worked as an accountant for a local town and kept the books for her husband’s pool business in her spare time. I invited Bruce and Leslie over to my place, but they only met my parents in passing. My folks worked constantly in those days with my father being a comptroller for a large hotel and entertainment complex and my mother working as a registered nurse in the same hospital that I worked.

Bruce started coming over on a regular basis and we often hung out by the huge pool downstairs from my condo. I was surprised to learn that he attended the same high school that I did because I never noticed him there before and he was a hard guy to miss. It was then that Bruce said he had been attending another high school nearby, but switched because of the work he did with police in that area. I also found out that Bruce was two years older than I was and had been left back twice, once in elementary school and another time in junior high school.

By the time that summer was ending and school was starting Bruce and I had somehow become good friends. I was a very accepting person and looked past most people’s flaws because I always felt like I had plenty of my own. Besides, I was an only child and valued the opportunity to have a close friend that I could treat as a kind of surrogate brother. For me, that was Bruce and visa versa.

We hung out a lot, but I still felt like I didn’t really know very much about him. That began to change after a new movie hit the local theaters. ‘The Exorcist’ moved from being a popular book on to movie screens and shocked nearly everyone that watched it. The film became a topic of hot debate at school and during youth ranch meetings that I still regularly attended.

I accepted Jesus as my Savior at a West Coast Youth Ranch meeting the year before. The facility was run by a missionary and his wife who used it to reach young people for the Lord. Apart from being an important tool for evangelism, it was a great place to meet and fellowship with other Christian young people. When ‘The Exorcist’ appeared in local theaters, we all started talking about it.

For most people ‘The Exorcist’ was just a film, an entertainment. For Christians it was a yet another sign of how successfully demonic forces had managed to creep into the world of entertainment. As Christian young people, we were concerned about how much it might influence our peers to turn away from God.

Many of us wanted to see the film, to find out what was scaring everyone half to death. The Youth Ranch missionary warned against it. So did Bruce. After attending a youth ranch meeting with me and hearing the discussion about the movie, Bruce said that he felt it was probably not a good idea to see ‘The Exorcist’ and his reasons why shocked me.

Bruce told me a secret that few outside his family knew about. His mother had a sister and some other relatives that dabbled in the occult. His aunt was never discussed at home or in the presence of strangers. Bruce and Leslie were banned from ever visiting or seeing her, but not for the obvious reason you might think.

His Aunt owned a small home in a quiet section of Saint Petersburg. It was out of that house that she ran a brothel. She had at least five young girls living there and several more worked for her outside of that house. The girls that stayed at her house were runaways from abusive homes. Bruce told me that to hear her tell it, she was doing them a kindness by allowing them to live there and earn their keep in such a morally bankrupt way.

Bruce’s dad was white and his mom was Hispanic. She came to America from Puerto Rico as a very young girl along with her mother and grandmother. They had suffered a double tragedy. Both her mother and grandmother lost their husbands to cancer within two years time. Being from influential families, it was not an easy decision to leave their home for strange shores, but it was just too painful for them to stay.

Bruce’s great grandmother, grandmother and aunt followed Santeria (which means ‘Way of the Saints’ in Spanish). It is a cult that combines many cultural, pagan and religious influences. From a born again Christian perspective it is an occult religion. Bruce’s mom shunned Santaria after she became a Christian as a teenager. The others continued to embrace it and influenced other members of the family to do likewise including Bruce.

When he was about eleven years old Bruce began to take an interest in Santeria. He never actually practiced it, but was intrigued by the fact that his grandmother claimed to have certain powers that were given to her by the spirits she could access from her religion. Bruce was amazed as he claimed that she could predict certain events successfully and even make objects move around and spirits appear.

As a young teenager, Bruce became involved with a small local cult of people that believed in ghosts and spirits. They worshiped certain spirits that he felt were the same ones contacted by his grandmother, but Bruce believed his group had better access to them. He wanted the powers that the group appeared to possess. He claimed that the ‘spirits’ made things appear and disappear and even healed some members of the cult.

It all seemed like fun until things started happening that Bruce said were unexplained and troubling. One of the ‘spells’ that the group regularly cast was a money or success incantation for people willing to make a donation to their group. One of the young girls that worked as a prostitute for his Aunt was a member of the cult and asked for a success incantation. She was nineteen years old and wanted to make a lot of money in a short space of time. She had plans to attend college and get out of prostitution.

The young girl lived at home with her parents. She was brought into the dark world of sex for sale by a girlfriend she went to high school with. That girl lived with Bruce’s aunt and had been working as a prostitute since she was fifteen years old. She always had money and the nineteen year old’s parents were tight with theirs. They rarely gave their daughter more than she needed to pay for school lunch and made her buy inexpensive clothing.

At the age of seventeen she had sex with a boyfriend for the first time. It didn’t seem that bad to her, so she decided to ask her friend to introduce her to Bruce’s aunt. The aunt agreed to furnish her with carefully screened clients for a fee and the girl said she could work out of her own house on weekends. The young girl was unable to get pregnant due to a childhood car accident that caused internal damage to her body, so that was not a concern or problem.

Most of her ‘clients’ were college boys from local schools. A few were men in their twenties and thirties and that bothered the girl, but she got used to it. She loved the money and the freedom she thought that money brought. She told her parents that she worked at a high end local restaurant on the weekends and made great tips. They were just glad she had a job and didn’t question her any further.

The nineteen year old’s parents were out of town almost every weekend and that was when clients came to her house to have sex with her for money. Her fifteen year old sister also lived in the house, but had her own room and stayed in there when those ‘special friends’ came around. She knew what was going on, but didn’t say anything to her parents. The nineteen year old shared some of the money she made with her sister and that kept her quiet.

Just after the success and money incantation had been activated, the nineteen year old girl found that it might actually be working. Her first new client was a wealthy young man in his late twenties who was planning to get married in a week. He wanted one last fling without any strings attached before he took his wedding vows. Bruce’s aunt gave that high-paying gig to her because she had strawberry blond hair, lots of freckles, looked younger than her age and was extremely pretty. The same could be said about her sister. The two could almost have been twins. That was just the look that the young man wanted and the date was set for Saturday night.

On that Saturday morning the nineteen year old’s folks went away for the weekend as they almost always did. Her parents were partners in a motel a couple of hours away and ran the place on weekends and holidays. However, shortly after noon the nineteen year old girl felt extremely ill. Her sister called an ambulance and she was taken to the hospital. Her fifteen year old sister remained at home on orders from her folks. They had called and were aware of the situation, but were unable to come right home.

Doctors phoned her parents and told them that their nineteen year old daughter was suffering from a vaginal infection. They treated her with antibiotics and decided that she needed to stay overnight at the hospital for observation. Her parents were shocked having believed that their daughter was still a virgin. They wondered exactly what she had been up to?

The nineteen year old called Bruce’s aunt from the hospital and told her to cancel the date she had set for Saturday evening. The aunt was on her way out and asked one of her girls to make the call. She did, but was unable to reach the young man. Unable to reach the aunt or the nineteen year old girl, things were left at that and it was too late to do anything about the date. They figured he would just go away if he came to the house and no one answered the door. They were unaware of the fifteen year old sister.

At around nine o’clock Saturday evening a young man appeared at the nineteen year old girl’s front door. The fifteen year old answered the door and explained that her sister was sick and in the hospital. He was either slightly drunk or high on something and did not believe her. He rushed into the house and started looking for the nineteen year old. When he didn’t find her, the young man flew into a rage having already paid Bruce’s aunt a large sum of money for the date.

The fifteen year old told him to leave, but he refused. He asked her to sit on the couch with him, but she kept telling him to leave. He forced her to sit with him and before she knew what was happening, he was fondling her and slipping off her clothes. The young man told her that if she did not cooperate with him he would come back later and hurt her, her sister and her parents. Never faced with a situation like this one before, the young girl didn’t know what else to do and let him have his way with her.

Being young and inexperienced, the whole thing was both physically and emotionally painful for her. He raped her twice, gave her some cash which he said was ‘for your trouble’ and left. The fifteen year old double locked the front door, cried for hours, took a bath and several showers. She was too afraid to call her parents or the police and didn’t want to upset her sister in the hospital. She finally fell asleep.

When the nineteen year old called her sister on Sunday morning, the fifteen year old told her what happened. She was shocked and horrified. After she told Bruce’s aunt about it, the situation was quietly dealt with by a few of her male friends and their associates who beat the young man senseless, took whatever money he had and warned him that his life was on the line if he ever tried to contact the aunt or the young girls again. They gave a large sum of money to the nineteen year old. She got a lot of money from the incantation, but at a very high price.

After Bruce heard about what happened he could not believe it. Why hadn’t the spirits protected the nineteen year old or her sister? Why had the success incantation exacted such a terrible price for the money? It was at that time that he began to see the downside of his association with the occult. However, he wasn’t quite ready to give up on it just yet. Instead, he decided to learn more about the spirits and seek them out himself.

Bruce began to study rituals designed to contact spirits that he found in various books. It was his plan to take charge of their power and make them do his bidding. Now in his middle teens, Bruce had a desire to date but found it hard to find a girlfriend. She would put up with his over the top personality and ‘motorcycle guy’ looks, not to mention the fact that he was two years older than most of his classmates. He decided to use an occult spell to find someone to go out with.

Bruce sat at lunch with an eclectic group of kids at his old high school. One of them was a shy girl named Amy. Her folks were older and she was the last child still at home. Her mom was fascinated by UFOs and the unexplained. She had books all over the house about the occult, supernatural and unexplained. Amy read some of the books and became interested in contacting spirits and other areas of the occult.

During lunch Amy occasionally mentioned how that she bought a Ouija Board and had some success using it. Bruce took notice of this and told her about some his own experiences with the occult. The two struck up a friendship which blossomed into a romantic relationship. She began attending the cult meetings that Bruce was still going to and was a fast learner.

Bruce and Amy conducted regular sessions using her Ouija Board and believed they had made contact with several reliable spirit guides. They also started to experiment with various incantations designed to bring forth spirits and give them each powers. It was during this time that they tried reciting an incantation which was supposed to make a powerful spirit appear in a mirror.

They decided to use the bathroom mirror at his house for the ritual because no one was home. They turned off the lights and had hardly gotten started when Bruce told me later that two hands came out of the mirror and started choking him. Amy was stunned and tried pulling him away, but the hands had a death grip on his throat. As a last resort, she tried turning on the lights. When she did, the hands vanished and Bruce collapsed on the bathroom floor.

He was dazed, but no permanent harm had been done. Bruce and Amy were frightened, but felt that maybe they had just said or done something wrong which angered the spirit they were trying to conjure up. A few weeks went by and they decided to try again. This time they chose another incantation and set up everything they needed in Bruce’s living room. With no one else in the house, they began to recite the incantation and light some candles.

Before either of them knew what happened, Bruce said that a lamp on a nearby table flew across the room at them narrowly missing Amy’s head. After that a dead calm settled on the house and static electricity made their hair stand on end. They cleaned up everything and left the house. Just as they were pulling around the corner from Bruce’s house, a town maintenance truck swerved and hit Amy’s car.

Bruce and Amy had minor injuries and were examined at a local hospital. Amy’s small car was all but wrecked and considered a total loss by her parent’s insurance company. Things got stranger from then on. Both Bruce and Amy’s dogs were run over in the street and killed within the same week. Amy’s father had a heart attack and her mother fell down and broke her ankle. The last straw came when Bruce became extremely ill.

Bruce felt constant nausea and fatigue. He had to stop using his motorcycle because he would become lightheaded and faint for no apparent reason. After several trips to the doctor and an emergency room yielded no specific cause for his illness, his parents asked their church to pray for Bruce. The prayers yielded fruit because Bruce felt better and the fainting spells ceased.

After all that happened, Bruce came to the realization that the occult had infected and influenced his life in a negative way. He left the cult, stopped doing incantations, threw all his occult books away and became a born again Christian. He even started attending church with his parents. Thanks to Bruce’s encouragement, Amy did the same. Amy later verified all the things that Bruce said happened in various conversations we had.

The matter of whether or not to go and see ‘The Exorcist’ still hung in the air. During my junior year in high school I began dating a girl named Louise that I met at the youth ranch. Both of us were Christians and held similar views on a variety of topics. However, like me, she was unsure whether to see the film or not. We all felt a bit pressured to see 'The Exorcist’ by our peers who said we had no business criticizing a movie we had not even taken the time to see.

Bruce and I talked it over with our girlfriends and after taking everything into account, made the mistaken decision to go and see the movie. Bruce did continue to warn us not to go, but agreed that if we were going to see that film, he would come along. During a weeknight we loaded into my car and headed for the local theater. It didn’t take long to see why the film was scaring the daylights out of everyone. It was designed to do exactly that. As Christians, the film was probably more damaging to us because we already believed in the devil as a real entity.

The movie frightened us all and on top of all that it was pouring rain out by the time we left the theater. I volunteered to go and bring the car around to the front while Bruce and Amy made a pit stop at the rest room. I pulled in front of the theater and Louise got in. We waited patiently for Bruce and opened our windows a bit to get some fresh air. Just then Bruce appeared at the passenger side window jumping at it and yelling, “Hah, I am the Exorcist!”

We nearly jumped out of our seats, but his silly joke did take some of the edge off a tense situation. I dropped Louise and Amy off, then headed back to the area where Bruce and I lived. I dropped Bruce off, headed over to the condo and parked my car. I had to walk through a dark outdoor parking lot, walk down a long hallway and through a large lobby, and take an elevator to the fourth floor where my parents and I lived.

From the time that I got out of the car I felt as though someone was following me. It might have been that I was still just freaked out from the movie, but the feeling was very real and became worse as I got off the elevator and walked down another long hallway to our condo. I couldn’t get inside fast enough and still felt very frightened when I went to bed. It took a long time and a lot of prayers to overcome that feeling. I knew at that point that the occult, and even movies and TV shows about it, were not something that anyone should become involved with or interested in.

Chapter Three: Keep The Occult Out Of Your Church

“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” Matthew 7:21-23 (KJV)

There is an old saying that the devil’s greatest lie is that he doesn’t exist. While that may or may not be true, I would say that his methods are more subtle than that. What I believe he really wants is to do is what he always does best: Try to mimic God. One area where he appears to have had great success in this attempt is through creating and presenting his own version of the gospel and his own version of the local church.

The Apostle Paul presents the danger of a counterfeit savior, a false gospel and false teaching in Galatians 1:6-12 (KJV):

“I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.”

Too many churches have degenerated into cults of personality. The idea that ‘bigger is better’ has created mega-churches with mega-preachers who have mega-egos that help them raise mega-bucks and produce a culture that leaves sinners comfortable in an unsaved condition and keeps Christians from serving God as he commands in the Bible.

Those uncomfortable with traditional Bible teaching can find a wide variety of cults to fit their own personal preferences. We celebrate religious freedom, tolerance and diversity in America. This does not mean that Christians are exempt from making sure that the Church they attend or the Ministries they support are based on the solid rock of sound Biblical and Christ-centered Teachings and Principles. The Bible provides ample warnings against following false gods, teachers, prophets, saviors and gospels.

The early church was rife with false teachings. That's because various groups, both Jewish and Pagan, wanted to interject their own beliefs, teachings and traditions into the Gospel preached by Jesus and the Apostles. Some of them did this because they believed the false doctrines they taught, while others were simply trying to make money. There are many Bible verses that warn against these false teachers and doctrines, but I believe the clearest come from the Jesus Christ himself:

“Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.” Matthew 7:13-27 (KJV)

Let's consider the words of our Lord as he warns against false teachers and religions. He tells us that most people are going to gravitate towards false teachings. He uses the simple example of a choice of gates to illustrate this point. Why are so many people going to take the wrong path to the wrong gate when it comes to trying to get to Heaven? Because the Devil and his co-workers make that gate very appealing.

Jesus tells us that there are false prophets out there which come to us as wolves in sheep's clothing. They talk the talk and walk the walk of what we might expect from religious teachers or prophets, but are exposed by their works. Instead of leading people to the simple Good News that Christ died for their sins as a free gift from God, their teachings muck up the works with all kinds of extra-biblical add-ons and teachings. Their words lead sinners away from the Gospel into false religion. Here's some examples:

You are not going to Heaven unless you: - speak in tongues - do good works - obey and follow church leaders no matter what they say or tell you to do - plant seed faith offerings - accept church teachings, confessions or traditions as equal with the Bible

Jesus clearly tells us that the followers of these false teachers and prophets will believe themselves to be safe from Hellfire and on their way to Heaven. However, he says that when they face him one day out in eternity, he will reject them. Why? Because their faith was based on a false gospel and fake religion, not a personal relationship with the Savior. He will sadly have to say to them, "I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."

Jesus admonishes people to listen to his words and obey them. He tells us that those who do this are building their houses of faith on a rock. Those who do not listen to his words and obey them are building their houses on sand. Rock is obviously a much more solid foundation than sand. Considering all that Jesus has told us, let's consider some things that false teachers, religions and cults have in common.

Let's take a look at the most fundamental and important of all of the teachings of Jesus and see if it matches up with what you might be hearing or being taught in a religious environment. The New Testament book of John tells of an amazing encounter between Jesus and one of the rulers of the Jews who was curious about our Savior and had questions for him:

“There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” John 3:1-6 (KJV)

I'm sure that Nicodemus had a whole slew of questions ready for Jesus, but before he could even get started, our Savior shared the Gospel with him. He told Nicodemus that he needed to be born again spiritually. All men are born physically and die a physical death. However, the Bible tells us that unless they are born again spiritually, they will also die a second or spiritual death. We find this in Revelation 20: 14 (KJV):

“And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death."

Again, just as there is a second death, there is a second birth. This is the very heart of the teaching of Jesus. As he tells Nicodemus in John 3:7 (KJV): “...Ye must be born again.” Ye MUST. This is an essential that rises above everything else and comes before everything else. If you do not take this step, nothing else matters. If we believe the words of Jesus, we will admit that we are sinners and accept his death on the cross as payment for our sins in a simple prayer to God.

Salvation is simple. False teachers and cults make it hard. They add works on to belief in Christ and that is not what the Bible teaches. Look at Ephesians 2:8-9 (KJV):

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Not of works, lest any man should boast."

Again, the Bible makes it very simple. Salvation is by faith alone and works have nothing to do with the process. You cannot buy your way to heaven with offerings or work your way there by trying to do good works. Despite this simple fact, how many times have we heard various TV and Radio Preachers say, “Faith is just not enough. You have to prove your faith...” In most instances they want you to prove your faith by sending them offerings to show God that you are a true Believer. This teaching is found nowhere in Scripture.

False teachers and religions place a lot of emphasis on giving. If you watch their TV programs or listen to their radio shows, it's all about getting more money to “spread the gospel.” But is that what they are really doing? For all the hours of TV and radio time they buy, how much of it is really devoted to giving out the Gospel or teaching the Bible? For them, it's all about Seed Faith, the idea that by planting a seed with an offering God will bless you. Again, this teaching is not Biblical.

The Bible tells us that God loves a cheerful giver and that we are to give based on what we receive, not give to receive. It also tells us in 1 Samuel 15:22 (KJV):

“And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams."

God wants our obedience more than anything else. That's because he knows that if we obey him we will accept the free gift of Salvation in Jesus and live our lives based on sound doctrine and correct Biblical teaching. In short, we will be building on the foundation of rock that Jesus talked about in Matthew chapter seven.

No one religion can lay claim to Christianity. They either believe the Bible and teach sound doctrine, or they do not, no matter what name or denominational title is on the church building. Those that do not tend to have their own bible, use another book they consider equal to the bible or accept bible versions that water down or even try to eliminate the fundamentals of the Christian Faith:

1. The Virgin Birth of Christ - Jesus was born of a virgin and is the Son of God 2. The Sinless Life of Christ - Jesus never sinned. 3. The Vicarious or Substitutional Death of Christ - Jesus died for our sins in place of us. 4. The Victorious Resurrection of Christ - Jesus rose from the dead a risen Savior. 5. The Visible Return of Christ - Everyone will see Christ return at his Second Coming. 6. The Triune God - Father, Son and Holy Spirit are equally God. 7. The Infallible Word Of God - The Word of God is perfect and inerrant. 8. The Priesthood Of Believers - Christians must share the Gospel with a lost world.

Many cults and false religions knowingly or unintentionally give their leaders equal status with God. What they say is equal to Scripture as far as their members are concerned. Some of these groups have Prophets that claim to receive extra-biblical messages or revelations from God. These messages are often misinterpretations of Scripture. What does the Bible say about such things?

“We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” 2 Peter 1:19-21 (KJV)

God has delivered a finished and perfect Word to Christians. It's called the Bible. During New Testament times it was necessary for Apostles to be able to speak many languages they had never learned so that the Gospel could be spread as quickly as possible to a lost world that never heard it before. They also needed to receive instructions from the Holy Spirit in the form of special knowledge because the New Testament of the Bible was not yet completed. However, Scripture makes it clear that once the Bible was completed and perfect, those temporary gifts vanished:

“Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.” 1 Corinthians 13:8-10 (KJV)

False teachers and religions are all about actions, rather than faith. They love to have their followers practice various rituals that have nothing to do with what the Bible teaches. Scripture tells us to be wary of these teachings and provides us with their source:

“Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.” (1 Timothy 4:1-5 KJV)

The Bible tells us that false teachers speak 'lies in hypocrisy.' That's because most of them are hypocrites that do not even practice what they preach. How many times over the years have we seen false teachers that use their flocks as personal bank accounts exposed in incidents of moral depravity, misappropriation of church funds or other scandals? The Words of Jesus which we looked at earlier ring true: “Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.”

Cults and false religions are generally intolerant when it comes to questioning their methods, actions and teachings. They despise any attempts to examine what they do or how they do it with the teachings found in the bible. Many church denominations have moved away from Biblical teachings in favor of a 'social gospel' which emphasizes good works in place of faith in Jesus. They preach tolerance of all kinds of behavior that Scripture condemns. Professors in liberal colleges which prepare pastors and teachers for these false religions often call the Bible a 'Paper Pope" indicating the lack of respect that they have for the Word of God and its teachings.

Scripture gives us the bottom line when it comes to exposing false teachings and false religion with these simple truths:

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.” John 1:1-5 (KJV)

Any preacher, teacher or religion that does not preach the simple Gospel of Salvation by faith in Jesus alone, does not respect the Word of God by adding or subtracting from it, does not make Christ the center of their teaching or attempts to interpret the Bible in a manner that serves them instead of "rightly dividing the word of truth" (2 Timothy 2:15 KJV) is in error. It is the responsibility of true Believers in Jesus to avoid these wolves in sheep's clothing and to keep Satan’s counterfeit saviors, false gospels and doctrines of devils out of their church.

Chapter Four: Beware Deception and Delusion

“Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.” 2 Thessalonians 2:3-12 (KJV)

No one knows whether or not we are in the last days, but it is certain that Satan has an Anti-Christ available at all times and lying spirits that are ready, willing and able to do his bidding. The Bible makes this clear and issues us a warning in 1 John 4:1-6 (KJV):

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.”

Here we are given an important spiritual insight. False teachers, counterfeit religion and lying signs are all about what people can see, hear and touch. This is why experiential religion is so attractive to those seeking spiritual fulfillment. Instead of trusting the Bible, it’s all about being healed, filled with the spirit, speaking in tongues and so on. These are touted as outwards signs of an inward faith, but is that Biblical? 1 Corinthians 13:8 (KJV) again reminds us...

“Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.”

Timothy provides a number of examples of and warnings against false teachers and doctrines including this one found in 2 Timothy 3:1-7 (KJV):

“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

There is no better example of how people allow false teaching, doctrines and the devil to infest their church than this. Let’s take a look at a perfect example: Pentecostalism. This movement started at the beginning of the twentieth century and many of their worship and doctrinal distinctives have managed to infest a huge number of churches of all types in America and throughout the world since that time.

Modern Pentecostalism can be traced to a prayer and Bible study meeting held in an Episcopal church basement in California by several women just after the turn of the century. The women would pray and pick out random Bible verses or chapters to study, but none had any formal training. Most went along with the doctrines of the Episcopalian religion which is not compatible with what the Bible teaches.

As time went on, they developed the idea that one had to experience a Baptism of the Holy Spirit as a sign of true salvation. They also believed that spiritual manifestations of that baptism in someone that was truly a Christian were necessary to prove their faith. One of these manifestations would be speaking in tongues. These concepts came from misinterpretations of Scripture and their inability to rightly divide the Word of Truth.

Their teachings caught on and before long another doctrine was added to their belief system. That was the idea that Jesus was superior to the other members of the godhead. Many United Pentecostal Churches now reject the idea of the Trinity (Father, Son, Holy Spirit). Early Pentecostals may have helped to foster this belief by stating that Jesus was in charge and everything spiritual flowed out from him alone.

Most church historians agree that Pentecostalism came to even greater prominence thanks to Charles Parham (1873-1929), the founder of Bethel Bible College in Topeka, Kansas, and William Seymour (1870-1922) , an African American Holiness evangelist from Louisiana. Parham and Seymour believed that the gifts of the Holy Spirit which were available during the days of the early church were also for Christians today. These men spread their beliefs to young Bible students who carried them abroad.

Charismatic-style revivals were first held in Los Angeles, California, USA, and helped to spread these new teachings throughout the country. In the meantime, the newly created faith attempted to adopt specific doctrines and teachings by borrowing from other religions and adding some of their own beliefs and interpretations of the Bible. The natural progression of these false teachings lead to their greatest heresy of all: The idea that a Christian could lose their Salvation. It became faith + works = saved. The works could be any number of things, but always included receiving the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, being able to speak in tongues and show physical manifestations of their spiritual condition. Again, the emphasis was on the physical.

By the 1960s, Pentecostalism became more than just an independent religion, it became the Charismatic Movement and infected almost all ‘Christian’ religions and faiths. Catholic, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Methodist, Baptist, Episcopalian, Anglican and many other churches had there own group of Charismatic believers who raised their hands toward Heaven hoping that God would take notice of them and send the Holy Spirit to manifest His Presence during during their Bible studies, meetings or special services.

This, in turn, helped to create the modern Ecumenical Movement which has tried to unite various religions into one Christian super-community of faith and cooperation. All of a sudden priests and pastors that subscribed to Ecumenicalism began teaching the idea that all religions are like spokes on a large bicycle wheel. Each one leads to the center which is Heaven. In short, they agreed to disagree which sounds lovely, but is not in any way, shape or form Biblical.

Speaking in Tongues was always the big thing with the Charismatic Movement. This involved someone speaking in an unknown or ‘heavenly’ language, while another interpreted what they had to say in English or some other known language. It was and remains all about experience with little emphasis on doctrine and a complete ignorance and rejection of Biblical Authority.

Some of the last centuries greatest religious charlatans and ‘Prosperity Preachers’ came out of the Pentecostal or Charismatic Movement. They replaced the Gospel that Jesus and the Apostles taught with a health and wealth gospel that promised believers success and money if they were willing to plant a ‘seed’ to show God that they were sincere. That seed was, of course, a donation to the preacher or ministry making that ridiculous and ungodly claim.

Now let me clarify things. I am not saying that people cannot be healed or speak in tongues or even display some sort of actual supernatural power or ability during a Charismatic service. What I am saying is that none of this comes from God. Lets look at 2 Corinthians 11:10-15 (KJV):

“As the truth of Christ is in me, no man shall stop me of this boasting in the regions of Achaia. Wherefore? because I love you not? God knoweth. But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion; that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we. For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.”

Chapter Five: To Turn To The Occult Is To Turn Away From God

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.” 2 Timothy 2:15-16 (KJV)

The word ‘occult’ means secret or hidden and there has never been a greater interest in the supernatural and unexplained than there is today. The television channels and movie theaters are filled with shows and films about ghosts, evil spirits and ficticious supernatural beings like vampires, werewolves, fairies and others. People are drawn to these subjects by the millions. Why? Because people love information that is secret, hidden, new or odd; and everyone has a real thirst for knowledge today.

“"But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased." Daniel 12:4 (KJV)

The book of Daniel tells us that people will eventually travel much more than they ever did and that knowledge will be increased. We have certainly reached a point today where almost anyone can go almost anywhere on Earth and find out about almost anything they want to about any subject online or elsewhere.

The increased availability of information is just what the doctor ordered for the Occult world. The fire of interest in the supernatural and unexplained is constantly fueled by what appear to be all sorts of supernatural or unexplained events which occur worldwide on an almost daily basis and are almost instantly reported in the news or online.

“Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Behold, I have told you before.” Matthew 24:23-25 (KJV)

Not only will there be amazing signs and wonders for all to see, but Jesus tells us that Christians have to beware that they do not fall into the trap of seeing these things and believing that they are the works of the Almighty. All of these things are nothing more than a distraction from the things of God designed to attract the interest of the unsaved and keep them from salvation.

UFOs and Aliens

The term U.F.O. (Unidentified Flying Object) was created by the U.S. Air Force many years ago to describe anything that a witness might see in the sky that they could not immediately identify. Descriptions of these objects go back to ancient times reminding us what the Bible says in Ecclesiastes 1:9 (KJV):

“The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.”

The truth is that the appearance of these strange objects or beings has already heralded the end of a society, which indicates their real purpose. Let’s look briefly at Genesis 6:1-7 (KJV):

“And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.”

The sons of God referred to in these verses are fallen angels. They were somehow able to take a physical shape and co-exist in our world with humans. Remember that the serpent in the Garden of Eden was physical and spoke with Eve. These beings found human women to take as wives and produced offspring. Their children became powerful and influential causing the world to fall into such a state of sin that God wanted to destroy everyone. The only people that were spared were Noah and his family. They were not a part of this horrendous Satanic Plot.

Satan uses the occult and all the powers that he and his devils possess to try and destroy people. Why? Because they have always represented a threat to him. The devil’s plan back in Genesis was to try and keep humans from ruling the earth and reining over him. Remember that God told Adam and Eve to subdue the earth and have dominion of it in Genesis 1:27-28 (KJV):

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”

There are many unsaved people that do not believe in the devil. Others think that he is their best friend. Most have the mistaken view that God is some kind of omnipresent spoil sport and would rather deal with just about anyone else other than the Almighty. Why? Because those are exactly the kinds of things that the devil wants people to believe. He hides the truth from them. We find this made very clear in 2 Corinthians 4:3-4 (KJV):

"But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them."

The struggle that humans have with the devil began before we were even created. The Bible tells us how an angel named Lucifer which means 'light bearer' became a fallen angel in Isaiah 14:12-15 (KJV):

"How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit."

Satan's rebellion was joined by some other angels. Not surprisingly, they lost that battle and God had them all ejected from Heaven and sent to Earth as revealed in Revelation 12:7-9 (KJV):

"And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him."

The Earth must have existed at the time that Satan was thrown out of heaven and exiled there along with his cohorts. With the devil in charge, I am certain that Earth could not have been a very happy place. However, God did not create the Earth for the devil. He created it for people.

The Bible tells us that God created a special place for humans to live on the Earth. That place was the Garden of Eden. It was reserved for their use and was likely a sanctuary that stood apart from the rest of the world controlled by the devil. After placing Adam and Eve in the garden, God gave them some amazing marching orders that are found in Genesis 1:28 (KJV):

"And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth."

God wanted people to obey him and subdue the Earth. He wanted humans, not the devil, to have dominion over the Earth. However, that plan fell apart because of free will. Adam and Eve were told what the ground rules were for the Garden of Eden. They had a choice to obey them or not. Those rules are found in Genesis 2:16-17 (KJV):

"And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die."

Because the devil had access to the entire Earth (including the Garden of Eden), he appeared as some sort of intelligent creature that already existed in the garden and one that was probably well known to Adam and Eve. That creature was called a serpent. Satan did this to deceive Adam and Eve. The Bible makes it clear that the devil can appear as most anything he likes. That fact is found in 2 Corinthians 11:14 (KJV):

"And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light."

Full of fear that God's plan to have humans dominate the Earth would succeed, the devil went to work on them with a lie. That lie is exposed in Genesis 3:1-5 (KJV):

"Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil."

The devil succeeded in tempting Eve, and she succeeded in getting Adam to go along with her. Sin entered into the picture and people became sinners. I am sure this made Satan very happy, but he didn't stop there. People were still a grave threat to him so he wanted to do all he could to infect them with so much evil that God could not even stand the sight of humans. He almost succeeded. The Bible states in Genesis 6:1-7 (KJV):

"And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them."

Satan used his army of fallen angels to seduce human women. These fallen angels apparently had the ability to mate with them and produce offspring. These children were people that obviously hated God and influenced others to do the same. The world became infested with evil and things were so bad that God was about to destroy every person and creature on the Earth and start over.

The devil almost had it made, but God noticed that there was a man who was just and taught his family the ways of the Lord. His name was Noah. The Bible tells us that "...Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord" (Genesis 6:8 KJV). God used Noah and his family (including his sons and their wives) to preserve humanity while he destroyed all the others with a worldwide flood.

However, as soon as the flood waters receded and the eight people that survived that catastrophe emerged from the Ark that God commanded Noah to build, Satan went right back to work. Noah planted a vineyard, produced wine, got drunk and fell naked on his bed. One of his sons named Ham looked at him while he was naked. Ham was the father of the people of Canaan. As punishment for the sin of Ham, the people of Canaan were cursed to serve the sons of Shem (another son of Noah).

Satan succeeded in creating a rift between Noah's children and continued to ferment rebellion among all humans. However, once again God entered into the picture and a chose a righteous man out of the Earth's populace to establish of nation of people that would be set apart to God. His name was Abram. The Bible tells us in Genesis 12:1-3 (KJV):

"Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed."

God creates a covenant with Abram and changes his name in Genesis 17:5-9 (KJV):

"Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee. And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee. And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee. And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God. And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations."

Satan loses again, but gets right back to work. He causes Israel to turn from God and sin over and over again. The Bible records the words of a disciple of Jesus named Stephen who describes the rebellion of Israel in the days of Moses and the days of Jesus in Acts 7:51-53 (KJV):

" Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye. Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers: Who have received the law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept it.”

Despite their failure to live up to God's expectations and become a nation of priests, the Jews would be used as a conduit to bring Salvation to humans through Jesus Christ. Jesus was a descendant of David, the King of Israel. As soon as he was born, the devil went back to work. The Bible indicates that Satan probably believed that Jesus came to the Earth to set up a Kingdom and, therefore, once again subdue the devil and his followers.

From the moment that Jesus Christ was born, Satan sought to kill, compromise or conquer our Lord. He used a wicked King named Herod to try and have Jesus killed while he was an infant. After the wise men came to Herod to inquire about the birth of Jesus, he became concerned about this amazing child and sought to have them locate him. Herod was jealous of the infant he felt might be a prophet or messiah who could cause his downfall. The wise men figured out what he was up to and helped to foil his plot. Herod was enraged and ordered a horrendous act to try to stop Jesus that is recorded in Matthew 2:16 (KJV):

"Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men."

Satan couldn't keep Jesus from being born and wasn't able to have him killed as an infant, so he did the next best thing. After Jesus began his ministry, the devil tried tempting him. Satan wanted Jesus to worship him. The Bible states in Matthew 4:8-11 (KJV):

"Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him."

Another failure for Satan, but he still didn't quit. From that moment on the devil again tried to have Jesus killed. Why? Because he believed that would stop the Lord from setting up his kingdom on the Earth. But there was something that Satan didn't know. A 'mystery' that was kept from him and all people until the Apostle Paul revealed it in Romans 11:25-27 (KJV):

"For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins."

The Gospel, the 'good news' of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ is also described as a 'mystery' in Ephesians 6:19 (KJV):

"And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,"

What the devil didn't know was that Jesus Christ was born of a virgin, took human form and fulfilled all of the Old Testament prophecies about the Messiah so that he could institute God's secret or 'mystery' plan for the redemption all people and the ultimate salvation of Israel. That plan replaced the Law with Grace.

God's plan of redemption for Israel began with the coming of John the Baptist as recorded in Matthew 3:1-6 (KJV):

"In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. And the same John had his raiment of camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey. Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan, And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins."

Jesus offered himself to the nation of Israel and they rejected him. While appearing before Pontius Pilate that fact was made clear in John 19:19-22 (KJV):

"And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS. This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin. Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews. Pilate answered, What I have written I have written."

God's program of redemption for the world would now be officially available to everyone as recorded in Galatians 3:13-14 (KJV):

"Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith."

Jesus needed to die on the cross to pay for the sins of all those who are willing to accept that death as payment for their iniquities. Instead of thwarting the plan of God for the redemption of people by encouraging those that hated Jesus to have him killed, Satan actually helped to fulfill it! That's why Jesus spoke in parables during his earthly ministry. After most of the people of Israel refused to accept Jesus as their Savior, Jesus reached out to and used Gentiles (people other than Jews) to do his work.

Satan hates people because from the very moment that God created us, he planned to use us to subdue the Earth and defeat everything the devil tried to do. Satan hates us even more now because we possess the ability to personally defeat him in our own lives. All it takes to defeat the devil is to join the other side by accepting Jesus Christ as your Savior. The Bible explains how to do that in Romans 10:9-10 (KJV):

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."

Accepting Jesus as your Savior is as simple as praying to God, letting him know you are a sinner, and accepting his death on the cross as payment for your sins. The devil hates you, but God loves you. Satan wants to kill you and Jesus wants to give you eternal life. It's as simple as that.

UFOs in Modern Times

Although strange things have been seen in the skies of the world for ages, most popular culture historians tell us that the modern UFO Era began on June 24, 1947. It started when a private pilot named Kenneth Arnold, who was also a former military pilot and relief U.S. Marshall, saw nine strange objects while he was flying near Mount Rainier in Washington State. He estimated their speed at over twelve hundred miles per hour and said they moved like stones skipping across the water.

When the press got wind of his sighting, they met up with Arnold and wanted more information. Asked to describe the objects, he said they looked like saucers that were broken in half. A news reporter on the scene misunderstood Arnold’s description and accidently reported that Kenneth Arnold saw Flying Saucers (which is how that term was born). Try as he could to find a conventional explanation for the sighting, Arnold was unable to do that and spent much of the rest of his life talking about what he saw to people fascinated by his experience.

Less than two weeks after the Arnold Sighting, more strange things started to happen. A number of people including credible witnesses and trained observers began to see saucer and cigar shaped objects in the skies over the Southwest USA. This created a huge amount of additional interest in the subject and a hype which reached its peak during what the U.S. Government originally said was the crash of a ‘flying disc’ near Roswell, New Mexico.

The Coming of the Aliens

The jury was still out on what flying saucers were as more and more reports flowed into newspaper offices all over the USA. Because the majority of the sightings of these strange Ariel Objects took place in the Southwest or near U.S. Military Bases and Government Research Facilities, it was assumed by the press and others that the things people were seeing in the sky were secret military test aircraft. That all changed on July 8, 1947 when the U.S. Government released an amazing statement about something that crashed on a ranch near Roswell.

Here is the original article published by the Roswell Daily Record on Tuesday, July 8, 1947:

RAAF Captures Flying Saucer On Ranch In Roswell region

No Details of Flying Disk Are Revealed

Roswell Hardware Man and Wife Report Disk Seen

The intelligence office of the 509th Bombardment group at Roswell Army Air Field announced at noon today, that the field has come into possession of a flying saucer.

According to information released by the department, over authority of Maj. J. A. Marcel, intelligence officer, the disk was recovered on a ranch in the Roswell vicinity, after an unidentified rancher had notified Sheriff Geo. Wilcox, here, that he had found the instrument on his premises.

Major Marcel and a detail from his department went to the ranch and recovered the disk, it was stated.

After the intelligence officer here had inspected the instrument it was flown to higher headquarters.

The intelligence office stated that no details of the saucer's construction or its appearance had been revealed.

Mr. and Mrs. Dan Wilmot apparently were the only persons in Roswell who seen what they thought was a flying disk.

They were sitting on their porch at 105 South Penn. last Wednesday night at about ten o'clock when a large glowing object zoomed out of the sky from the southeast, going in a northwesterly direction at a high rate of speed.

Wilmot called Mrs. Wilmot's attention to it and both ran down into the yard to watch. It was in sight less then a minute, perhaps 40 or 50 seconds, Wilmot estimated.

Wilmot said that it appeared to him to be about 1,500 feet high and going fast. He estimated between 400 and 500 miles per hour.

In appearance it looked oval in shape like two inverted saucers, faced mouth to mouth, or like two old type washbowls placed, together in the same fashion. The entire body glowed as though light were showing through from inside, though not like it would inside, though not like it would be if a light were merely underneath.

From where he stood Wilmot said that the object looked to be about 5 feet in size, and making allowance for the distance it was from town he figured that it must have been 15 to 20 feet in diameter, though this was just a guess.

Wilmot said that he heard no sound but that Mrs. Wilmot said she heard a swishing sound for a very short time.

The object came into view from the southeast and disappeared over the treetops in the general vicinity of six mile hill.

Wilmot, who is one of the most respected and reliable citizens in town, kept the story to himself hoping that someone else would come out and tell about having seen one, but finally today decided that he would go ahead and tell about it. The announcement that the RAAF was in possession of one came only a few minutes after he decided to release the details of what he had seen.

As quickly as the government said that they were in possession of a flying disc, they changed their mind as indicated by this story from the July 9, 1947 issue of the Roswell Daily Record

Gen. Ramey Empties Roswell Saucer: Ramey Says Excitement is Not Justified

General Ramey Says Disk is Weather Balloon

Fort Worth, Texas, July 9 (AP) An examination by the army revealed last night that mysterious objects found on a lonely New Mexico ranch was a harmless high-altitude weather balloon - not a grounded flying disk.Excitement was high until Brig. Gen. Roger M. Ramey, commander of the Eighth air forces with headquarters here cleared up the mystery.

The bundle of tinfoil, broken wood beams and rubber remnants of a balloon were sent here yesterday by army air transport in the wake of reports that it was a flying disk.

But the general said the objects were the crushed remains of a ray wind target used to determine the direction and velocity of winds at high altitudes.

Warrant Officer Irving Newton, forecaster at the army air forces weather station here said, "we use them because they go much higher than the eye can see."

The weather balloon was found several days ago near the center of New Mexico by Rancher W. W. Brazel. He said he didn't think much about it until he went into Corona, N. M., last Saturday and heard the flying disk reports.

He returned to his ranch, 85 miles northwest of Roswell, and recovered the wreckage of the balloon, which he had placed under some brush.

Then Brazel hurried back to Roswell, where he reported his find to the sheriff's office.

The sheriff called the Roswell air field and Maj. Jesse A. Marcel, 509th bomb group intelligence officer was assigned to the case.

Col. William H. Blanchard, commanding officer of the bomb group, reported the find to General Ramey and the object was flown immediately to the army air field here.

Ramey went on the air here last night to announce the New Mexico discovery was not a flying disk.

Newton said that when rigged up, the instrument "looks like a six-pointed star, is silvery in appearance and rises in the air like a kite."

In Roswell, the discovery set off a flurry of excitement.

Sheriff George Wicox's telephone lines were jammed. Three calls came from England, one of them from The London Daily Mail, he said.

A public relations officer here said the balloon was in his office "and it'll probably stay right there."

Newton, who made the examination, said some 80 weather stations in the U. S. were using that type of balloon and that it could have come from any of them.

He said he had sent up identical balloons during the invasion of Okinawa to determine ballistics information for heavy guns.

Somewhere along the line stories of strange creatures found alive or dead at the crash site developed and were included in other news reports. These creatures were said to be short, with fragile looking bodies and large heads. A radio news report said that all of the wreckage and/or bodies were eventually reported to have been transported to Wright Field (Wright-Patterson A.F.B.) in Ohio.

Sightings of different types of so-called ‘aliens’ have been reported throughout the world. These include the small type (like the bodies allegedly retrieved from the Roswell crash), tall humanoid types, humans exactly like us or similar, reptilian creatures and other strange beings. While the overwhelming majority of scientists do not believe that Aliens from other worlds are visiting ours, most agree that life can exist elsewhere in the universe. Other theories say these beings are time travelers or even creatures from another dimension.

The mere possibility that scientists say beings other than ourselves can exist somewhere out in the vast unknown excites people interested in UFOs and Aliens. However, the scientists that offer that possibility do so based on the Theory of Evolution. They believe that life can ‘evolve’ under certain conditions when the right building blocks of life are present. The problem with these assumptions is that God does not indicate in his word that humans evolved from apes or anything else. Humans were a special creation by God. Did he create any other intelligent beings like us?

“Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.” Genesis 2:1 (KJV)

This verse is often quoted by those who believe that God created other intelligent beings elsewhere out in space. The problem with this theory is that this verse is generally accepted to mean that God completed the creation of everything he felt was needed in the heavens and the earth. In other words, the verse does not indicate in any way, shape or form that God created any other groups of intelligent beings like ourselves.

There is a possibility that the word 'host’ in Genesis 2:1 may also refer to the creation of angelic or heavenly beings along with the rest of creation because no specific time line or chronology is offered. There are other instances where the word does refer to angels, but most reliable Bible scholars feel that angels and other heavenly creatures already existed by the time the Earth was created.

Again, the act of creation seems to revolve exclusively around the Earth and the humans living on it. The greatest Biblical argument against the existence of extra-terrestrial creatures is that when the present Earth and the heavens are destroyed, any other creatures living on other worlds would be destroyed as well:

“And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?” Revelation 6:12-17 (KJV)

Nowhere in the Bible do we find any indication that God has provided a plan of salvation or any other provision for beings that might exist elsewhere in the universe. This indicates that the existence of physical, intelligent life forms apart from the humans found on earth is very doubtful.

The Abductees

History records all sorts of instances were supernatural creatures are said to have kidnaped or taken away people. This is nothing new, but in recent years the creatures in question have been described as ‘Aliens.” One of the first modern cases of UFO or Alien Abduction(s) took place in the 1960s when the story of Betty and Barney Hill shocked and caught the imagination of the world.

Cosmic Chills online provides us with an accurate account of what Betty and Barney Hill claimed to have experienced:

***

Late on the night of 19th September, 1961, 41 year old child welfare worker Betty Hill and her 39 year old husband Barney were traveling home after a pleasant vacation in Southern Canada. They were traveling along Interstate Route 3, which cuts through the White Mountain of New Hampshire on the long journey home to New England. For quite a while the Hills had been puzzled by the 'white star' that had seemed to be tailing them. Barney, being sceptical by nature, thought it may be a plane heading towards Montreal. Traffic was very scare on the highway, and the couple decided to stop to allow their dog, Delsey, to have some exercise.

It was now close to midnight and , as Betty walked the dog off the side of the road, Barney used binoculars to study the strange light more carefully.

After a few minutes further into their journey, Barney felt the sudden urge to stop and leave the car. They were near an isolated spot called Indian Head, and ignoring Betty's cries to return to the car, Barney walked deeper into the roadside tree cover, staring ahead at the white light in the sky. It became apparent to Barney that the strange light was a UFO.

It had a shape described by both witnesses as like a pancake or a banana, and Barney was sure he could see figures standing against a large picture window in front of the spacecraft. Barney lowered the binoculars from his eyes and shouted 'I don't believe this!', then muttered something about a military helicopter playing tricks on them, then screamed out loud 'They're going to capture us!' with that, he fled back to the car. The couple then sped off southwards to begin the drive down from the mountains. Further down the road, the Hills heard a strange 'beeping', a sound which, years later the Hills would describe as similar to a microwave oven. A second 'beeping' noise followed by a bump, and then everything returned back to normal.

The morning after they arrived home, the Hills noticed some problems with their car. The vehicle had strange blotches where the paint had been removed, revealing bare metal. Betty's sister suggested that they should see if the spots were magnetized. She asked this because she also had experienced a UFO before, and had read that UFOs could stall car engines. Using a hand-held compass, they discovered that the compass needle swung wildly over the blotched areas of the car, suggesting that these spots, were indeed magnetized.

Distressed, the couple decided to ring the nearby Pease Air Force Base to report their experience with the UFO. They were told nothing at the time, but documents researched 20 years later report of a similar UFO being reported at the base on September 20th at 2.15 a.m. in the morning.

The Hills also decided to report their encounter to a national UFO group. UFOlogist and astronomer Walter Webb visited the Hills on 21st of October, and set in motion what was to become one of the most remarkable investigations in UFO history.

Barney was worried, because he could not explain the scuff marks on his shoes, as if he had been dragged roughly along the ground, and he was also suffering from an extremely painful back. On 30th September, Betty began to have a series of recurring nightmares that lasted for several nights. In them she would see horrible faces with cat-like eyes that belonged to creatures intent on kidnapping her and her husband. One fact that emerged during Walter Webbs investigation was that, during the Hills journey, they could not account for two hours of time, or 55km of their route. By Spring 1962, the Hills problems were still evident and they were regularly seeking medical advice to relieve them of their mental torment.

Finally they were referred to psychiatrist Dr. Benjamin Simon in Boston. He recommended them to undergo regression as a way to free their subconscious minds of whatever was causing the problems. From the start, the emotional impact of that September night was obvious. Although both Betty and Barney were regressed separately, a number of images surfaced from their subconscious minds that were remarkably similar. The Hills' response under hypnosis undoubtedly shook Dr Simon. On several occasions staff had to help him restrain Barney while he relived the events of that night and fought to escape the aliens that he visualised.

According to the evidence retrieved through these sessions, the UFO had landed beside the road, and rendered the Hills' semi-conscious. The couple were then taken against their will aboard the craft by small beings with whitish skin and large cat-like eyes (similar to greys). Once on board, the couple were separated and both given medical examinations. Barney had semen extracted by a suction device, while Betty had to endure a large needle being stuck into her abdomen. Other samples such as nail and hair clippings were also taken. The aliens also appeared fascinated by the differences between the couple. Barney, who was Ethiopian by birth, had dark skin.

After the tests, Betty was shown around the UFO where she attempted to persuade what seemed to be the group's leader to allow her to take away a book as proof of their adventure, but this was denied.

One thing that sceptics cannot explain is, Betty could draw a detailed sketch of the star system Zeta Reticuli which is in the Reticulum constellation, 6 years before astronomers even discovered it?

This case has become a landmark case in UFO folklore. The importance of the Hills' abduction experience cannot be overemphasized. It changed the world of UFOlogy forever.

UFO and Alien Abduction(s) are a wonderful Satanic Deception. We already know that the devil knows things and can reveal them to people that they or others may not know about. That’s because he is called the ‘god of this world’ and was banished to earth by the Lord. He also has the power to move people from place to place as evidenced when Jesus was tempted by the devil:

“Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.” Matthew 4:8-11 (KJV)

It’s not aliens that take people away. If UFO or Alien Abduction(s) occur at all, they are the work of the devil and part of his grand deception to keep people focused on the things of this world and away from God.

Ghosts and Pagan Celebrations

The belief in life after death is a common denominator among most of the world’s major religions and one which many Occultists accept as well. According to the available archaeological and anthropological evidence, this concept grew out of the earliest forms of adoration. Primitive peoples developed the notion of worship with the belief that paying homage would result in personal and group compensation. Some were monotheistic, while others worshiped multiple objects or deities. Whether worship meant sacrifices, complicated ceremonies or merely a mutual respect between humans and nature, it all added up to a dependence on a higher source for survival.

Primitive societies believed in spirits. For some, everything had a spirit. For others, spirits were the higher beings that they worshiped. Some believed that they were able to personally meet, see or commune with spirits with the aid of hallucinogenic substances, while others simply knew they were there and that was enough. Spirit worship or adoration always seemed to lead to a point where good, bad, indifferent or mischievous spiritual beings all co-existed. Evil or mischievous spirits were the most likely to appear to people for the purpose of causing trouble.

Tragedies, unexplained events or sicknesses were blamed on evil or mischievous spirits including ghosts or what some might refer to today as Fey or Fairies. While they were elevated in status by some cultures, people who claimed to be able to commune with spirits faced the danger of being blamed for calamities attributed to them in other societies. The terms Charmer, Conjurer, Witch, Wizard, Necromancer or Medium could easily be applied to these people.

The Bible makes it clear in Deuteronomy 18:9-12 (KJV) that the practice of contacting spirits is not acceptable to God:

“When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.”

This verse sheds a great deal of light on the connection between occult practices and the murder of people.

“There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire.”

The same people who believed in spirits and made attempts to contact them apparently had to appease these entities by sacrificing children to them. Historians tells us that it was not unusual for ancient pagan worshipers to build the form of a human out of wood and stuff children or people to be sacrificed to false gods inside it. The horrifying structure would then be set on fire and everyone inside would be burned to death.

Many of the origins of the modern celebration of Halloween come from the events that surrounded the sacrifice of children to false gods. According to a number of reliable sources (including Robert J. Myers; Celebrations: The Complete Book of American Holidays, p. 258), Halloween is based on an ancient Druid holiday or sabbat called Samhain (the end of summer) and was celebrated in late October and early November.

Dr Terry Watkins explains further in these excerpts (edited) from his tract “Halloween: A Covenant With Death and Hell”

***

Halloween began over 2,000 years ago among the Celts and their pagan priests called the Druids. The Druids are, without question, history’s king of the occult. Witchcraft, Satanism, paganism and virtually all facets of the occult acquire instruction from the Druids. From the popular jack-o-lantern, trick-or-treat, costumes, to the pranks, ghoulish ghosts, demons, goblins and witches - Halloween owes its morbid birth to the Druids.

The mystic rites and ceremonies with which Halloween was originally observed had their origin among the Druids (Douglas, George William. The American Book of Days, p. 566). The Druids celebrated two special nights of the year: Beltane and Samhain. Beltane took place on May 1 and marked the birth of summer. Samhain occurred on November 1 and signified the death of summer. Samhain, a night celebrating death and hell, was the Druid’s most important ritual. It was a terrifying night of human sacrifices. And it was the original Halloween.

The Druids believed, during Samhain, the mystic veil separating the dead from the living opened. The Druids taught that roaming spirits loosed on Samhain went searching for a body to possess. The frightened Celts would masquerade as demons, evil spirits and ghosts, hoping to convince the roaming evil spirits that they were another evil spirit and would leave them alone. The Celts also prepared meals as "treats" to appease the evil spirits from "tricks" or malicious acts; hence our custom of "trick or treat."

The Druids performed human sacrifices and other rituals during Samhain. Let there be no doubt - Samhain night was a terrifying "covenant with death, and with hell." And let there be no doubt - Samhain was the original Halloween night.

All histories of Halloween inevitably wind back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. . . (Skal, David J. Death Makes a Holiday: The Cultural History of Halloween, p. 20)

Halloween had its origins in the festival of Samhain among the Celts of ancient Britain and Ireland. (Encyclopedia Britannica 2005 "Halloween")

Halloween can be traced directly back to Samhain, the ancient Celtic harvest festival honoring the Lord of the Dead. (Thompson, Sue Ellen. Holiday Symbols and Customs, p. 251)

First-born sacrifices are mentioned in a poem in the Dindshenchas, which records that children were sacrificed each Samhain . . . (Rogers, Nicholas. Halloween: From Pagan Ritual to Party Night, p. 17)

Halloween. That was the eve of Samhain . . . firstborn children were sacrificed. . . Samhain eve was a night of dread and danger. (National Geographic. May 1977, pp. 625-626)

The Druids would drink their victim’s blood and eat their flesh. They [Druids] sacrificed victims by shooting them with arrows, impaling them on stakes, stabbing them, slitting their throats over cauldrons (and then drinking the blood). . . (Guiley, Rosemary Ellen. Harper’s Encyclopedia of Mystical & Paranormal Experience, p. 167)

The Romans put an end to this cult in which to murder a man was an act of the greatest devoutness, and to eat his flesh most beneficial. (Pliny, Natural History, xxx, 13)

The Druids "counted it an honourable thing" to eat their father’s flesh and perform incest with their mothers and sisters. . . since they are man-eaters as well as heavy eaters, and since, further, they count it an honourable thing, when their fathers die, to devour them, and openly to have intercourse, not only with the other women, but also with their mothers and sisters;. . . (Strabo, Geography)

This is what occurred on the original Halloween night...

The Druids also celebrated the festival of Beltane. The word Beltane (Beltaine, Beltinne, Beltain, Beiltein) literally means the "fires of Bel." Bel is the same god called Baal, found over 80 times in the King James Bible. The Lord condemns Baal worship probably more than any other false "god."

. . . then the Druids lit the Baal-Tinne, the holy, goodly fire of Baal. (Wilde, Lady Francesca Speranza. Ancient Legends, Mystic Charms, and Superstitions of Ireland)

The god whom the Druids worshipped was Baal, as the blazing Baal-fires show, and . . . children were offered in sacrifice to Baal. (Hislop, Alexander. The Two Babylons, p. 232)

The original Halloween was a hellish night of Baal worship and child sacrifice. And most of our current Halloween customs derived directly from Baal rituals. November first was Samhain [Halloween] . . . Fires were built as a thanksgiving to Baal. . . (Kelley, Ruth Edna, The Book of Hallowe'en, Lothrop, Lee and Shepard Co. Boston, 1919)

The mystic rites and ceremonies with which Halloween was originally observed had their origin among the Druids . . . ancient Baal festivals from which many of the Halloween customs are derived. (Douglas, George William. The American Book of Days, p. 569)

Baal is also a synonym for the devil. (Burns, Cathy. Masonic and Occult Symbols Illustrated, p. 327)

Halloween glorifies death in worship to Baal or the devil. The Druid festival of Samhain was a celebration of death. Strutting its hellish death images of skulls, skeletons, ghosts, demons, devils and incarnate evil, Halloween glorifies Death. David Skal titled his history of Halloween, “Death Makes a Holiday” and offers the following description: The grand marshal of the Halloween parade is, and always has been, Death. (Skal, David J. Death Makes a Holiday: The Cultural History of Halloween, p. 18). Halloween can be traced directly back to Samhain, the ancient Celtic harvest festival honoring the Lord of the Dead. (Thompson, Sue Ellen. Holiday Symbols and Customs, p. 251)

The Devil glorifies death. Hebrews 2:14 says, ". . . that through death he [Jesus] might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;" Proverbs 8:36 says all they that hate the Lord ". . . love death." Revelation 6:8 says the rider of the antichrist’s pale horse, ". . . and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him."

Understanding the hellish history of Halloween—why in the world did decent people so embrace it? What magic "trick" transformed rancid Samhain into the giddy Halloween?

As the Catholic missionaries swarmed Britain and Ireland seeking the mass conversion to Catholicism, their orders from Pope Gregory in 601 A.D. was to cunningly convert the Druid rituals into Catholic rituals. The Catholics converted the ritual of Samhain into the festival of All Saint’s Day, a day of celebration and prayer to dead "Saints."

Halloween begins well over 2,000 years ago in the British Isles. Here, we find the holiday stripped to its most essential element: a night when Celtic tribes communed with the spirits of the ancestral dead. These grand and glorious pagan celebrations were assimilated by the Catholic church. . . Rather than extinguish old customs, the church leaders provided Christian versions of them: from the Middles Ages on, All Saint’s Day and All Soul’s Day replaced the ancient Celtic celebrations of the dead. (Bannatyne, Lesley Pratt, Halloween: An American Holiday, an American History, Facts on File, Inc., New York, 1990 p. x)

The Catholic festival of All Saints Day was also known as All Hallows Day, with the word "hallow" replacing "saints." The day before All Hallows Day (October 31) was recognized as All Hallows Eve. Eventually, All Hallows Eve became Hallows Eve; hallow’even; hallow’en and ultimately today’s Halloween.

All Saints' Day perpetuated the pagan Samhain of November Eve. (Bonwick, James, Irish Druids and Old Irish Religions, Dorset Press, 1984 (1986ed), p.87)

Many traditional beliefs and customs associated with Samhain . . . continued to be practiced on 31 October, known as the Eve of All Saints, the Eve of All Hallows, or Hallows Even. It is the glossing of the name Hallow Even that has given us the name Hallowe’en. (Santino, Jack editor, Halloween and Other Festivals of Death and Life, The University of Tennessee Press, Knoxville, TN 1994 p. xvi)

In 835, Pope Gregory IV "blessed" All Saint’s Day as a sacred "day of obligation," consequently on that day, the Catholic Church officially "ordained" Halloween. Halloween owes its very life and breath to the "blessing" of the Catholic Church. Samhain would have breathed its last breath many years ago if not for the "ordination" of the Catholic Church.

Few holidays have a stranger or more paradoxical history than Halloween. Technically, it is the vigil of All Saints Day, observed by Roman Catholics . . . Halloween has clear connections with the rites of the druidic priests. . . (Douglas, George William, revised by Helene Douglas Compton, The American Book of Days, The H.W. Wilson Company, New York, 1948, p. 741)

A perverse and blasphemous twist to Halloween concerns the name "Halloween." The word "hallow" means "holy, sanctify or consecrate." The popular Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6:9 begins with, ". . . Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. . ." The label "hallow" belongs to God the Father—Hallowed be thy name. Halloween was a night sacrificing young children to the worship of Baal. It is no accident that the name of history’s most hellish night, glorifying "death and hell," wears God the Father’s holy name of "hallow." The blasphemous name of "Halloween" clearly bears the fingerprints of Lucifer as found in Isaiah 14:12, ". . . I will be like the most High."

While Halloween masquerades as childish fun and frolic, it is serious business in the occult world. Witchcraft, Wicca, Satanism and paganism believe, on the night of Halloween, devils and spirits are unleashed. They perform their most hideous and potent rituals on the night of Halloween.

Samhain: This is the "Witch’s New Year" and the primary Sabbat from which all others flow. (RavenWolf, Silver. Teen Witch, p. 42)

Halloween is one of the four major Sabbats celebrated by the modern Witch, and it is by far the most popular and important of the eight that are observed. . . Witches regard Halloween as their New Year’s Eve, celebrating it with sacred rituals. . . (Dunwich, Gerina. The Pagan Book of Halloween, p. 120)

Halloween is also among Satanism’s most cherished days. Anton LaVey, founder of The Church of Satan and author of The Satanic Bible writes: “After one's own birthday, the two major Satanic holidays are Walpurgisnacht (May 1st) and Halloween.” (LaVey, Anton Szandor. The Satanic Bible, p. 96)

Satanic High Priestess Blanche Barton, on The Church of Satan web site, praises Halloween: “It [Halloween] gives even the most mundane people the opportunity to taste wickedness for one night. They have a chance to dance with the Devil . . . I see Satanists all over the world meeting in small groups this night and Hallowe’ens 500 years hence, to raise a glass to the Infernal Hosts. . ."

The Satanic Calendar decrees for Halloween: "One of the two most important nights of the year. . . Blood and sexual rituals. Sexual association with demons. Animal and human sacrifice—male or female." (www.theforbiddenknowledge.com/hardtruth/satanic_calendar.htm)

Former occultist Johanna Michaelsen reveals, "Halloween is also a prime recruiting season for Satanists." (Michaelsen, Johanna. Like Lambs to the Slaughter, p. 192)

The ornaments decorating Halloween came directly from the Druids and the occult. The popular associations of Halloween are derived from ancient Celtic and Druid pagan religious customs. (Mather, George A. and Larry A. Nichols. Dictionary of Cults, Sects, Religions and the Occult, p. 237)

Samhain was a vital part of Celtic culture, its rituals were passed from generation to generation through the oral tradition of the Druids. The genesis of many of America’s Halloween traditions can be found in these ancient celebrations . . . (Bannatyne, Lesley Pratt, Halloween: An American Holiday, an American History, Facts on File, Inc., New York, 1990 p. 6)

WITCHES are the reigning Queens of Halloween. If you’ve been lullabied by the gospel of Halloween that witches are harmless folks, wake up, witches worship the devil: In many instances, according to the confessions of the witches, besides their direct worship of the devil, they were obliged to show their abhorrence of the faith they had deserted by trampling on the cross, and blaspheming the saints, and by other profanations. (Spence, Lewis. An Encyclopedia of Occultism, p. 433)

The witches held a party at Hallowe’en and the women . . . sold their soul to the devil, would put a stick in their beds anointed with the fat of murdered babies. . .(Douglas, George William. The American Book of Days, p. 569)

Although witches vigorously protest they have no dealings with the devil, under the heading, "A Witch’s God," the popular witch’s training manual, Witchcraft: Theory and Practice, plainly states: A Witch’s God. . . He is . . . Lord of the Underworld [Hell] . . . He is named . . . Baphomet . . . Lucifer . . . Baal. . . (Angeles, Ly de. Witchcraft: Theory and Practice, p. 60)

The Lord God’s judgment upon witches should not be taken lightly. ‘Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.’ Exodus 22:18

JACK-O-LANTERN: If Witches are the Queens of Halloween, the smiling jack-o-lantern is the King. The demonic jack-o-lantern leaves most historians baffled tracing its spooky origin. One popular tale, tells of Jack who tricked the devil in a deal for his soul. But the origin of the jack-o-lantern is much more sinister. It arrives from the Druid’s ghastly reverence of the severed human head! They proudly decorated their houses and temples with bloody severed heads. The Druids believed the head housed the soul, hence the light or candle in the skull. The original jack-o-lantern was not a pumpkin or turnip, but a severed human head!

Trophy, charm, or ornament, the human head figured prominently in Celtic life. Warriors hung enemy heads on their houses as a show of prowess, and Druids, believing that the head harbored the soul, placed skulls in sanctuaries to ward off evil. (National Geographic, May 1977, p. 603)

. . . they hang the heads of their enemies from the necks of their horses, and, when they have brought them home, nail the spectacle to the entrances of their homes. . .(Strabo, Geography)

It is believed that faces, rather than other images or symbols, were originally carved onto the pumpkin because they gave the jack-o-lantern the look of a head. The Celts of ancient times believed that the head was the most sacred part of the human body, for it housed a person’s immortal soul. (Dunwich, Gerina. The Pagan Book of Halloween, p. 32)

. . . the jack-o-lantern is generally presented in its traditional form as a festive euphemism for the death’s-head, the triangular nose hole and rictus grin being the "dead" giveaways. (Skal, David J. Death Makes a Holiday: The Cultural History of Halloween, p. 38)

Carved and illuminated by a candle, they are symbolic of death and the spirit world. (Thompson, Sue Ellen. Holiday Symbols and Customs, p. 256)

TRICK OR TREAT is another Druid inspired custom. Every year on Halloween, many children throughout the world dress up in costumes and go door to door in a ritual known as trick or treating . . . unaware that their innocent masquerade is actually the remnants of a Druidic religious practice from times most ancient. (Dunwich, Gerina. The Pagan Book of Halloween, p. 11)

Whatever the wrinkles, the root assumption is the same: trick or treat had its beginning in the Celtic dawn. (Santino, Jack. Halloween and Other Festivals of Death and Life, p. 82)

MASKS & COSTUMES: Masks and costumes carry a long history in the occult and demon possession. Masks are contacts to the spirit world to invite the spirit to "possess" them. In rituals, a person wearing a mask of a god or spirit often feels possessed by the supernatural being. . . (World Book 2005, p. 263)

The person wearing the mask feels internally transformed and takes on temporarily the qualities of the god or demon represented by the mask. (Biedermann, Hans. Dictionary of Symbolism, p. 218)

BAT: "One of the animal shapes commonly used by these demons (or "familiars," as they were often called) was the bat. Bats and their blood were also used in the casting of spells (especially those of black magick), the brewing of potions. . ." (Dunwich, Gerina. The Pagan Book of Halloween, p. 29)

OWL: "On Halloween night, demons in the form of owls were said to have traveled with Witches and their cats . . . some were even believed to be Witches in disguise. . . (Interestingly, the owl was called a strix by the Romans, a word that means "Witch.")" (Dunwich, Gerina. The Pagan Book of Halloween, p. 43)

"BLACK CATS were associated with darkness and death . . . they embodied demons who performed the witches task of maleficia against their neighbors. . . Black cats are said to be the devil himself." (Guiley, Rosemary Ellen. The Encyclopedia of Witches and Witchcraft, p. 49)

APPLES: "The practice of bobbing for apples at a Halloween party comes form our Pagan ancestors, who highly valued apple magick." (RavenWolf, Silver. Teen Witch, p. 42)

SKULL: "An interesting symbol, the skull . . . It is prominent in Witchcraft and Demon worship as a celebration of death." (Burns, Cathy. Masonic and Occult Symbols Illustrated, p. 388)

Halloween has always wallowed in the obscene. Its horrid history is paved with vandalism, destruction and wickedness. The sickening depravity of razor blades in apples and poisoned candies of the 1970‘s was a clear testimony to the evil of Halloween. Some say that Halloween brings out the evil side of human nature in certain individuals. The number of vandalism acts committed each year on Halloween certainly seems to support this. . . (Dunwich, Gerina. The Pagan Book of Halloween, p. 23)

Halloween has always been a night of perversion and inversion—a night where misrule rules and decadence masquerades as decency. Halloween’s "best kept secret" is its romantic love affair with homosexuals. Halloween was the golden key that unlocked the homosexual’s closet of perversion. Halloween’s spirit of inversion, bestowed the homosexuals one utopian night to publicly flaunt their decadence and perversion.

It is an opportunity to act out one’s desires or fantasies. . . Halloween is unquestionably a night of inversion. (Rogers, Nicholas. Halloween: From Pagan Ritual to Party Night, p. 137)

Halloween has always been a night of misrule and the outrageous. In recent years, it has been adopted by the gay community in America. . . (Morgan, Sheena. The Real Halloween, p. 42)

The Halloween machine turns the world upside down. One’s identity can be discarded with impunity. Men dress as women, and vice versa. Authority can be mocked and circumvented. (Skal, David J. Death Makes a Holiday: The Cultural History of Halloween p. 17)

Halloween has done more for the current acceptance of homosexuality than any other event. Years of huge homosexual Halloween street parades of gaudy perversion and decadence in New York’s Greenwich Village, Washington, D.C.'s Georgetown, New Orlean’s French Quarter and the infamous Castro Street in San Francisco almost single handily detonated the current homosexual explosion.

Greenwich Village has a long, albeit erratic, history of impromptu Halloween celebrations, and there is undoubtedly a link between the recent emergence of such carnivalesque celebrations and the increasingly public nature of gay culture. . . (Santino, Jack. Halloween and Other Festivals of Death and Life, p. 194)

Yet it has been the gay community that has most flamboyantly exploited Halloween’s potential as a transgressive festival . . . Indeed, it is the gay community that has been arguably more responsible for Halloween’s adult rejuvenation. (Rogers, Nicholas. Halloween: From Pagan Ritual to Party Night, p. 132)

For gay people, Halloween is a moment of utopian wishfulness . . . (Santino, Jack. Halloween and Other Festivals of Death and Life, p. 211)

While many deem Halloween as harmless fun and fantasy, Halloween subtlety disarms our (and especially our children) discernment of witches and the occult. Halloween’s magic potion of "fun and frolic" transformed witches, demons, devils and evil incarnate into "fine folks." Over 1.2 million practicing and proud witches live in America. Witchcraft currently is the fastest growing religion in America. At some time, nearly every little girl becomes a witch on Halloween. Witch RavenWolf delights when a vulnerable little girl dresses as a witch on Halloween:

Today, just about every little girl in our society, at one time or another, has chosen to costume herself as a Witch. . . If you choose a Witch’s costume this Halloween . . . Hold your head up and wear your Witch’s garb proudly in their honor. (RavenWolf, Silver. Halloween: Customs, Recipes & Spells, p. 64)

Occult historian Jean Markale discloses Halloween bids more than childish dress-up. It is a pagan "initiatory journey" guided by someone [Satan] "hidden in the shadows," and none "return from Halloween innocent": The passage into the world of Halloween is truly an initiatory journey. One does not return from it an innocent. But making the journey alone does not mean there was no guide, no initiator, someone who prompted the quest and who, sometimes hidden in the shadows, watches over the comings and goings of the neophyte through this labyrinth that is the Other World. (Markale, Jean. The Pagan Mysteries of Halloween, p. 127)

Dr. David Enoch, former senior consultant psychiatrist at the Royal Liverpool Hospital and the University of Liverpool, states: Halloween practices open the door to the occult and can introduce forces into people’s lives that they do not understand and often cannot combat. . . (Parker, Russ. Battling the Occult, p. 35)

Halloween is the soul winner’s dream. Rather than going to a wicked rock concert, or Mardi Gras, or a parade to witness, on Halloween they come to you! On Halloween lost children (and parents) come to your door for a treat. Give them a real treat, the gospel of Jesus Christ! As you hand them some candy, give them a tract.

The frightful night of Halloween can be a fruitful night for Bible believing churches. Parents are looking for a safe alternative to Halloween. Have a real "Fall Harvest"! Advertise it; build it up; put some time and prayer into it! Encourage kids to dress up as "Bible characters." Have games and goodies for the kids. And heres the harvest part: Provide some tables and refreshments for the parents. Have some covert "soul winners" quietly mingle among the parents to converse and tell them of the wonderful Lord Jesus!

Some may object such tactics on Halloween as "partaker of his evil deeds" (2 John 1:11), but Christian friend, Satan is "the god of this world" (2 Cor. 4:4); and "the whole world lieth in wickedness" (1 John 5:19), not just the one night of Halloween! Our days of the week wear the names of pagan gods: Moon-day, Zues-day, Woden'-day. Thor'-day, Freyja-day, Saturn-day, Sun-day. Ever look on that dollar bill displaying the satanic all-seeing "eye of Lucifer" in the pyramid? This earth is the devil’s turf (Luke 4:6). You cannot escape his wicked influence. But as David took Goliath’s own sword and cut his head off (1 Sam. 17:51), we can take one of Satan’s "swords" and cut some souls from hell.

More About Evil Spirits, Ghosts and Mediums

Even people chosen as religious leaders could quickly fall from favor if signs appeared that evil spirits were at work in the community. These signs could be normal events in nature like an eclipse or harvest moon. Melted footprints in the snow that became misshapen might make people think that devils were afoot. Milk that soured too quickly, a well that went dry or a sudden outbreak of sickness could also be interpreted as being the work of evil spirits.

As cultures grew, their religions became more complicated. Mythologies and folktales were developed or incorporated into belief systems. The rewards offered by deities were no longer just temporal, but eternal. In some cultures the afterlife became another world with it’s own complicated system of government, rules and regulations. In others, it was merely a continuation of life. But if there were rewards, there would also be punishments.

People who committed evil deeds or failed to practice their religion would be punished in some spiritual way. The miscreant might be sent to a lower realm or be earthbound after death. With this change, came the idea of ghosts. Unlike spirits which are generally considered to supernatural beings, ghosts are thought to be disembodied humans. Those enjoying their heavenly reward might come back with an encouraging message, while earthbound souls might appear to taunt or seek vengeance on the living.

There are several theories that non-believers use to explain what ghosts are. Most unsaved people believe that ghosts are visual manifestations of humans in the afterlife. Others say that ghosts are merely the replaying of events and people recorded through some unknown process in nature. Some believe that ghosts are proof that living humans have the ability to see images from the past or future in the present.

People who believe that ghosts are disembodied humans point out that they are sometimes interactive being able to channel through mediums, appear and speak with the living, cause physical phenomena and display changing behavior patterns. Much of what is believed about ghosts as humans in the afterlife comes from the Spiritualist Movement.

In 1848 the Weekman Family of Hydesville, New York, reported a series of strange knocks at their door when no one was there. An eight year old living in the home said she felt an unseen hand running up and down over her bed sheets. Just a few weeks after the Weekmans moved out, the Fox Family moved in and also reported hearing the knockings. With the help of their brother, Margaret and Katie Fox worked out an alphabetical code that allowed them to interpret the knockings. The messages seemed to be coming from a man murdered in the house some time ago. A skull was later unearthed in the basement.

The incident convinced the sisters that communication with the dead was possible and, in 1849, Margaret Fox publically demonstrated her abilities to channel messages from the dead. The next twenty years saw the birth of Spiritualism as a religion. Spiritualist Ministers who either felt, saw or channeled with disembodied humans offered their congregation messages from dead friends and relatives.

Spiritualism had strong supporters and powerful enemies. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, best known for his Sherlock Holmes stories, became an avid believer and gave his first lecture on the subject in 1917. Doyle’s friend, famous magician Harry Houdini, wanted to believe, but became a strong foe of Spiritualism when he came across several mediums who were complete fakes. As more fake medium hunters followed in Houdini’s footsteps and traditional religious leaders spoke out against it, Spiritualism lost much of its momentum.

Those who claim that hauntings are merely events from the past being played back in the present point out that many ghosts show no sign of interaction with the living. Dressed in clothes from a particular period in history, ghosts seem to be go about their normal business just as living people would. A ghostly priest walks across a room in an ancient abbey. Ghostly soldiers talk and play cards in the room of an old fort. A long dead Victorian family is seen picnicking under a tree. In each case there is no interaction with living persons present, just a very natural scene from the past.

Believers in precognition (seeing visions of the future) and retro-cognition (seeing visions of the past), say that ESP is the answer to the ghost phenomenon. They believe that anyone can see a glimpse of the past or future at any time.

It’s likely that these popular explanations for ghosts may all be a part of what we think of as paranormal activity. Science has been set up as a means to explain every aspect of our world using theory and conjecture, and to do so without apology. When a theory or hypothesis doesn’t work out, they just throw it out and make up another. The failure of science to examine paranormal activity without trying to debunk it, leaves us with only two choices regarding the unexplained. We can either totally ignore everything odd that goes on and assume it has some scientific or physical explanation, or we can make guesses based on the available evidence.

For most people Ghosts may be nothing more then the result of a human desire to exist beyond the grave or the ultimate gag that the Universe is playing on us. To many Christians, ghosts are the visual manifestations of demons masquerading as deceased people. The Bible warns us against seeking contact with spirits or those who claim the ability to commune with them in Isaiah 8:19 (KJV):

“And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?”

King Saul of Israel failed to obey the Lord, so God rejected him as King as described in 1 Samuel 15:10-23 (KJV):

“Then came the word of the LORD unto Samuel, saying, It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the LORD all night. And when Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning, it was told Samuel, saying, Saul came to Carmel, and, behold, he set him up a place, and is gone about, and passed on, and gone down to Gilgal. And Samuel came to Saul: and Saul said unto him, Blessed be thou of the LORD: I have performed the commandment of the LORD. And Samuel said, What meaneth then this bleating of the sheep in mine ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear? And Saul said, They have brought them from the Amalekites: for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed. Then Samuel said unto Saul, Stay, and I will tell thee what the LORD hath said to me this night. And he said unto him, Say on. And Samuel said, When thou wast little in thine own sight, wast thou not made the head of the tribes of Israel, and the LORD anointed thee king over Israel? And the LORD sent thee on a journey, and said, Go and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they be consumed. Wherefore then didst thou not obey the voice of the LORD, but didst fly upon the spoil, and didst evil in the sight of the LORD? And Saul said unto Samuel, Yea, I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, and have gone the way which the LORD sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites. But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God in Gilgal. And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.”

Even after delivering the tragic news to Saul and warning that rebellion was just like the SIN of Witchcraft, Saul sought out a witch after Samuel died. He was hoping that Samuel would come back from the dead and give him good news about an upcoming battle:

“And it came to pass in those days, that the Philistines gathered their armies together for warfare, to fight with Israel. And Achish said unto David, Know thou assuredly, that thou shalt go out with me to battle, thou and thy men. And David said to Achish, Surely thou shalt know what thy servant can do. And Achish said to David, Therefore will I make thee keeper of mine head for ever. Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel had lamented him, and buried him in Ramah, even in his own city. And Saul had put away those that had familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land. And the Philistines gathered themselves together, and came and pitched in Shunem: and Saul gathered all Israel together, and they pitched in Gilboa. And when Saul saw the host of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart greatly trembled. And when Saul inquired of the LORD, the LORD answered him not, neither by dreams nor by Urim, nor by prophets. Then said Saul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit, that I may go to her, and inquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman that hath a familiar spirit at Endor. And Saul disguised himself, and put on other raiment, and he went, and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night: and he said, I pray thee, divine unto me by the familiar spirit, and bring me him up, whom I shall name unto thee. And the woman said unto him, Behold, thou knowest what Saul hath done, how he hath cut off those that have familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land: wherefore then layest thou a snare for my life, to cause me to die? And Saul sware to her by the LORD, saying, As the LORD liveth, there shall no punishment happen to thee for this thing. Then said the woman, Whom shall I bring up unto thee? And he said, Bring me up Samuel. And when the woman saw Samuel, she cried with a loud voice: and the woman spake to Saul, saying, Why hast thou deceived me? for thou art Saul. And the king said unto her, Be not afraid: for what sawest thou? And the woman said unto Saul, I saw gods ascending out of the earth. And he said unto her, What form is he of? And she said, An old man cometh up; and he is covered with a mantle. And Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he stooped with his face to the ground, and bowed himself. And Samuel said to Saul, Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me up? And Saul answered, I am sore distressed; for the Philistines make war against me, and God is departed from me, and answereth me no more, neither by prophets, nor by dreams: therefore I have called thee, that thou mayest make known unto me what I shall do. Then said Samuel, Wherefore then dost thou ask of me, seeing the LORD is departed from thee, and is become thine enemy? And the LORD hath done to him, as he spake by me: for the LORD hath rent the kingdom out of thine hand, and given it to thy neighbour, even to David: Because thou obeyedst not the voice of the LORD, nor executedst his fierce wrath upon Amalek, therefore hath the LORD done this thing unto thee this day. Moreover the LORD will also deliver Israel with thee into the hand of the Philistines: and to morrow shalt thou and thy sons be with me: the LORD also shall deliver the host of Israel into the hand of the Philistines.” 1 Samuel 28:1-19 (KJV)

Ghost Hunters, Paranormal Investigators and Fortune Tellers: The Occult Is All Consuming

People are fascinated by paranormal researchers and investigators who look for ghosts in haunted places, hunt for strange beasts (Bigfoot, Sea Serpents, etc) and seek out the newest and most fascinating UFO stories, witnesses and evidence. Why? Because our world has become obsessed with the Unexplained. It’s an obsession custom made in Hell.

It is not unusual for people to go broke trying to unlock the secrets of the unknown. They spend their grocery money on ‘paranormal investigations’ and even leave their families to pursue leads which they feel will help them to unlock the secrets of the unexplained. Despite all of their expense and efforts, the answers they seel always elude them and that’s what Satan had in mind when he created that scenario.

The Bible tells us that people are vulnerable to this kind of deception because they seek after the futility (vanity) of knowledge and riches instead of the things of God:

“The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem. Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity. What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun? One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever. The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose. The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits. All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again. All things are full of labour; man cannot utter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing. The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us. There is no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after. I the Preacher was king over Israel in Jerusalem. And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all things that are done under heaven: this sore travail hath God given to the sons of man to be exercised therewith. I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit. That which is crooked cannot be made straight: and that which is wanting cannot be numbered. I communed with mine own heart, saying, Lo, I am come to great estate, and have gotten more wisdom than all they that have been before me in Jerusalem: yea, my heart had great experience of wisdom and knowledge. And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit. For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.” Ecclesiastes Chapter One (KJV)

The same situation exists for people who continually seek knowledge about the future: their own or other’s. They spend a fortune on fortune tellers in the form of Psychics, Tarot Card Readers and other charlatans. Jesus tells us this is wrong in no uncertain terms in Matthew 6:31-34 (KJV):

“Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”

Seek Ye First The Kingdom Of God

Once again we find our marching orders for a happy life spelled out in the Bible by Jesus Christ:

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

If we seek the Salvation offered by God through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ and accept it, our next step is to place our lives in God’s hands by obeying him and seeking his will. That information is found in the Bible and can easily be unlocked by daily prayer and Bible reading. When you do not pray or read the Bible each day, you cut the lines of communication between yourself and the Lord.

The End Of The World Prophecies

The prophecies of the Mayans (December of 2012), writings of Nostradamus (perhaps 2242) and others indicate the world will end on a specific date or during a specific year. Some people believe they can predict that date, even some religious or ‘Christian’ pastors, evangelists or leaders. Harold Camping the founder of Family Radio stations recently told people that the world would end on a certain date. It didn’t, so he tried again and failed again, finally giving up.

The world cannot end until after Jesus Christ physically returns to Earth. The Bible tells us that he departed into Heaven in a physical form and will return the same way:

“And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.” Acts 1:9-11 (KJV)

The Bible also makes it clear that no one knows when he will return accept God:

“But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.” Matthew 24:36-39 (KJV)

The one thing we do know about the second coming of Jesus is that people who are not Christians will be surprised, just as surprised as the people were in Noah’s time. Noah preached for one hundred and twenty years about the coming judgment and no one listened. Christians warn the unsaved today and many refuse to accept the fact that there is a God, a Savior and a coming judgment. Be sure you are not surprised by the end of the world. Be ready by accepting Jesus Christ as your Savior. Visit http://gthomy.tripod.com to find out how.
